Space to Grow: Expanding Outdoor Learning

Children learn best when they can move, explore, and connect with the natural world. At Children’s House of Ormond Beach, we believe that learning should extend beyond the walls of a classroom.

The Space to Grow Pavilion Project will create a covered outdoor classroom where students can gather, learn, create, and explore together throughout the school year.

Your support helps us create a space where children can thrive!

What the Pavilion Will Support

The pavilion will function as a covered, open-air classroom used by students across all grade levels. It will support a wide range of learning activities, including morning meetings and circle time, reading and literacy instruction, art and creative projects, science and nature observation, gardening and environmental learning, as well as music, movement, and group lessons. Students will also use the space for collaborative work and outdoor exploration. In addition to daily classroom use, the pavilion will serve as a gathering place for family events, school celebrations, and community activities.

Why This Project Matters

The pavilion is only the first step. In the coming years, we envision an outdoor environment that feels like a natural extension of our classrooms, including:

• student gardens

• shaded outdoor lesson areas

• nature observation spaces

• movement and collaborative play areas

• quiet spaces for reflection and reading

Over time, this outdoor classroom will become an essential part of the daily rhythm of our school. Outdoor learning supports improved student focus and engagement while helping children develop stronger emotional regulation. It also creates more opportunities for movement, collaboration, and hands-on exploration, allowing students to connect classroom concepts to real-world experiences. By expanding our outdoor learning environment, we are strengthening the school’s ability to support the whole child academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
